Rodowicz's Big Day Leads 'Canes to Blowout Win
CHESHIRE, Mass. — Lee girls' soccer coach Lauren Finnegan was candid when asked about her team's 7-1 loss to Hoosac Valley on Monday."It's a game we'd like to forget," she said.
While Finnegan will try to forget about the tough loss, she'll probably remember the day put in by Hurricanes' midfielder Megan Rodowicz. The junior captain was an offensive machine against the Wildcats, scoring three goals and chipping in three assists to help Hoosac earn a key South Division win and improve its record to 5-2 this year.
Rodowicz scored the game's first goal on pass from Madison Ryan in the 13th minute of play. She then assisted on goals by eighth-grader Lily Kronick and senior Danielle Beauchemin late in the half to give the hosts a 3-0 lead at the break. Rodowicz continued her assault in the second half, scoring the first and last of the Hurricanes' four goals and assisting on another tally by Kronick. Beauchemin was also very effective, scoring two goals with two assists, while Kronick, who was brought up to the varsity team just recently, finished with two goals and an assist for the first points of her high school career.
"It's a game we'd like to get forget but will, instead, use as a way to learn and grow," Finnegan said. "Admittedly, we did not play as a team, from the start of the whistle to the end. Needless to say, all players took their own responsibilty for the result of this game."
Victoria Murphy scored the lone goal for Lee (3-3-1) in the 53rd minute. That broke up the shutout for Hoosac sophomore Megan Richardson, who made 10 saves in goal to earn the win.
The 'Canes next host Wahconah at 4 p.m. next Tuesday, while the Wildcats will try to regroup in a road game at Sabis at 4 on Wednesday.
