Ghidotti, Ferrara Spark Drury's Win over Lee
LEE, Mass. -- Sophomore Cori Ghidotti and senior Mariah Ferrara played a role in all three of their team's goals to lead the Drury girls' soccer team to a season-opening 3-0 win at Lee on Monday.Ferrara opened the scoring by finishing off a pass from Ghidotti nine minutes into the game. Both defenses held the rest of the first half, though, until Ghidotti found the net twice after halftime. She gave the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead by scoring off of a feed from Ferrara 11 minutes into the half and later added an unassisted tally in the 71st minute for the final goal of the game.
"Our front line moved the ball well at times and, when they did, they demonstrated complete control of the field," Drury head coach Molly Meczywor said. "Our defense did a great job, especially our juniors, Danielle Racette, Amanda Ramsdell and Ali Tatro. Their leadership sklls on the backline have been instrumental. We are looking forward to getting more games under our belts."
Tatro, the Devils' junior goalie, made 15 saves to preserve her first shutout of the year. Cam Biasin stopped 12 shots in net for the Wildcats.
Drury is now off until Saturday, when it hosts South Division rival Mount Greylock at 9 a.m.
