Despite the sometimes unseasonable weather, the spring is off to a fast start for this week’s iBerkshires.com/Adams Community Bank Athletes of the Week.

Sprinter and long jumper Madison Ross made her mark at the season’s first track and field meet. While Dart Jaggi and the Wahconah boys lacrosse team have gotten a jump on the field by earning four wins before some teams played their first game of the season.

Ross, a Mount Greylock junior, won the long jump and placed in the 100-meter dash and triple jump at the Warrior Track and Field Classic hosted by Niskayuna High in New York’s Capital District.

Her winning leap of 17 feet, 4 inches as well as her mark of 34-3.5 in the triple jump and 12.75 seconds in the 100 -- each good for fifth place -- all met the qualifying standards for the Central/Western Mass Division 2 Championships in late May.

Ross also ran a leg on the Mounties’ 4-by-100 relay team that finished third in 52.23, another sectional qualifying time on this side of the state line.

Last year as a sophomore, Ross was fourth in the long jump at the all-state meet after winning the Central/Western Mass title with a meet-record mark of 17-8.5

This week, she and the Mounties and the rest of the county’s runners, jumpers and throwers will be headed to Great Barrington and the Berkshire County Invitational at Monument Mountain.

Jaggi, a senior, is tied for the team lead on the Wahconah boys lacrosse team with 13 goals through four games.

This week, he had a pair of hat tricks in wins over Lee and Pittsfield after starting the season with seven-goal game in Wahconah’s first action of the season back on April 1.

Wahconah has a pair of back-to-back non-league games in the vacation week: Wednesday at Belchertown and Thursday at home against Chicopee.

The iBerkshires.com Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Adams Community Bank.
