Eagles Exact Revenge in Win over Hornets
SHEFFIELD, Mass. -- Last month, the McCann Tech boys' soccer team earned a hard-fought 3-2 home win over Mount Everett. The Eagles returned the favor on Friday, however, defending their home turf with a 3-1 win over the Hornets.Sage Angell scored a pair of goals in the first half for Everett, which snapped a six-game losing streak with the win. Angell gave the Eagles (3-6) the lead 10 minutes into the game by finishing off a feed from Jacob Malicky. After Nick Tomich scored off of a penalty kick three minutes later, Angell gave the hosts a 3-0 lead by heading in a long pass from Erik Derwitsch five minutes before halftime.
McCann (6-6) fought hard in the second half but managed just one goal against Everett keeper Blake Ferrara, who stopped 10 shots in the game to pick up the win. Sophomores Kevin Dowling and Shane Fuller hooked up for a goal in the 49th minute of play, giving Dowling his third goal of the year and Fuller his team-leading 10th assist of the season.
"There was good ball control and possession in this game, but the shots just didn't go in," Hornets head coach Adam Kozik said. "Unfortunately, there were some errors that led to the three first-half goals."
Senior goalie P.J. Laliberte made 12 saves in net for McCann, which next hosts Ware at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
