Monument Scores Early And Often Against Drury
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — It didn't take the Monument Mountain boys' soccer team long to get going against Drury on Monday afternoon. The Spartans scored two goals in the 3rd minute alone, as junior Lucas Wartella and senior Chris Peretti each registered unassisted goals."This was a shootout for Monument Mountain from the beginning," Blue Devils head coach Greg Caproni said. "We only had 13 players for this game and we tried to weather the storm as much as possible."
Monument (5-0-1) continued the pressure on the Drury defense. Peretti would get his second goal of the game in the 9th minute thanks to an assist from senior Nick Masiero. Danny Huertas and Curt Rathbun would score to make it 5-0, but Drury (0-7-1) would get their only goal right before half, courtesy of an unassisted strike by senior Ryan Ouimet.
The second half saw Monument score two more times, as Emil Ghitman-Gilkes and Maserio would make the final score 7-1. Aaron House made two saves in goal for the Spartans, while Joseph Liporace stopped eight shots for Drury
"I am proud of my kids for never giving up no matter the score or how beat they were," Caproni said. "They kept working until the very end. Monument was just the bigger, faster and more talented team out there."
Drury next visits Mount Everett at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, while Monument next hosts Lenox at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
