Tietgens' Two Goals Gives Drury First Win
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- It was just one win but when that one victory matches the win total of all last season, it certainly is a big win for the Drury boys' soccer team.Senior forward Jake Tietgens drilled a free kick in the 65th minute that skipped off the hands of St. Joe's goalie Matt Begrowicz and rolled over the goal line to give the Blue Devils a 2-1 win at home. Last season, it took Greg Caproni's team until mid-October to win its only game of the year.
Tietgens had two goals in a game in which Drury (1-1) outshot the Crusaders 15-13. He put the Devils ahead in the fourth minute of the match by firing a shot into into opposite side of the net. St. Joe's tied the score when Charlie Crall scored off a deflection 14 minutes into the second half, but that was the only goal St. Joe's would manage against Drury keeper Joseph Liporace, who made nine saves to earn the win.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Saturday, when they host Lee at 11 a.m.
