PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The Pittsfield High football team came up just short in its quest for the season’s first win on Friday as Holyoke held on for a 22-19 win in a battle at Wahconah Park.

A matchup between two evenly equipped teams came  down to the wire with Holyoke (3-0) edging out the win.

The game started with an impressive 80-yard Holyoke drive that took up seven minutes in the first quarter.  Giovanni Carrasquillo finished it off with a 13-yard touchdown. Giovanni rushed for 166 yard and one touchdown. Giovanni was a menace causing problems all game for Pittsfield. Leesandro Colon got the second score of the game for Holyoke off of a nice 32-yard touchdown pass to Jose Luciano. Colon also added a rushing touchdown for 18 yards, while throwing for 69 yards.

On the other side of the line, Edwin Rodriguez carried the load for the Generals often, gaining 122 yards and a touchdown. Including a nice fake punt for 40 yards just before securing his touchdown. The only other bright spot of the half for Pittsfield (0-3) was a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Trevor Taylor that  brought Pittsfield within a touchdown at the break.

The third quarter was more of a chess match between the two teams as they stepped up the intensity on the defensive end leading to consecutive punts. The  first score of the second half didn’t come until the start of the fourth quarter after Holyoke took advantage of a blocked punt that set up the field goal to make it 22-13.

Pittsfield did not go away as it continued to pound the ball on the ground setting ‘up a quarterback keeper for Joe Traverse for 49 yards. Unfortunately time was not on the Generals side as Holyoke ran out the clock to secure the 22-19 win.

Holyoke takes on Longmeadow next Friday at home. Pittsfield will be on the road at Commerce.
