It has been a while since either of this week's iBerkshires.com/Southwestern Vermont Health Care Athletes of the Week has known what it feels like to lose.

And each is gearing up to help their team continue its winning ways into the post-season.

Patrick Rindfuss and the Pittsfield High football team dropped their season opener against Wahconah, which turned out to be one of the best teams in the state, and has gone 5-0 since then, outscoring opponents by a combined margin of 244-50.

Pittsfield even scored 26 points in its one loss, giving its offense an average of 45 points per game with one regular season contest left, Friday at Ludlow.

"We’re pretty explosive offensively,” Pittsfield coach Brian Jezewski said after Friday's win over Taconic. “Patrick does an awesome job running the show and our offensive line played great."

Rindfuss ran for more than 200 yards and accounted for five touchdowns in Friday's victory.

That win over Taconic already gave Pittsfield one title, the city chamiponship. But the Generals will be gunning for more hardware in a couple of weeks when the state Division 5 tournament gets underway.

Mount Greylock's volleyball team, which last lost to Monument Mountain back on Oct. 6, has two tournaments on its to-do list this fall: the state tournament in November and the Western Mass tourney that gets underway on Tuesday.

Fortunately for the Mounties, they have Takiera Darrow back at full strength after a mid-season injury knocked her out of a few games, including that five-set loss to the Spartans.

Last week, she led the Mounties to three wins, including a Senior Night victory where she she had 12 kills and five aces in a three-set win.

Darrow said she made the most of her time on the sidelines this fall.

"It's a lot different getting to watch because I don't really see the way I move or other people move on the court when I'm out there," she said. "It's definitely for me to see what I need to fix.

"It was definitely tough to only be able to watch and not be able to help them. But I'm so proud of the way they held each other together - even when we had four people out."
