Drury senior captain Jose Melendez helped his team to a much needed win on Saturday afternoon as he erupted for 143 yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns in a 36-16 home victory over Monument Mountain.  Melendez tore up the Spartan defensw to the tune of 5.7 yards per carry, scoring on touchdown runs of one, eight, and 36 yards.  Melendez's three rushing scores doubled his total for the season.

Melendez has been the Blue Devils' bell cow this year, toting the rock 135 times for a mammoth 819 total rushing yards, giving him a cool 6.1 yards per carry on the season so far.  Melendez's 819 rushing yards are good for the second highest total in the county, trailing only Greylock's Ethan Ryan who surpassed 1,000 yards this past week.

Melendez has also made an impact in the passing game for his Blue Devil squad, completing five passes for 37 yards and two touchdowns.  Combining his rushing and passing touchdowns gives him eight of Drury's 12 total scores on the season.  Melendez will look to continue to lead his team to more victories as the Blue Devils strive to meet their goal of winning out the rest of the year and finishing .500 on the season.
