Alfred S. Gardner, 90

STAMFORD, Vt. —  

Mr. Alfred S. Gardner, 90, of Stamford, VT, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Williamstown Commons.

He was born in Revere, MA on February 28, 1932, a son of the late Alfred and Hazel (Cuthbertson) Gardner. He attended schools in Revere and graduated from the Revere High School. He then went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Norwich University in Northfield, VT, where he was a member of the Honors Society, Deans List and the Grenadiers Orchestra.

Mr. Gardner was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict having served with the United States Army as a 1st Lieutenant of the Army Security Agency in Germany. He was Honorably Discharged on April 6, 1956.

Mr. Gardner worked for General Electric Co., Pittsfield, with experience in engineering, quality control and marketing, retiring after 39 years.

He was a member of the Stamford Community Church, having served as a trustee and treasurer. He was a member of the Masonic Temple having achieved 32nd degree mason of the Scottish Rite, the Melha Shriners and the National Ski Patrol for 40 years at Brodie Mountain and Bosquet until he was 75. He had served the Town of Stamford as an accessor, auditor and delinquent tax collector. He was also an avid New England Patriots fan.

His wife, the former Janet E. Witham, whom he married on August 29, 1954, died on April 8, 2013.

He is survived by his daughter Lisa Gardner and her husband Steven Fennewald of Tiverton, RI; his son Scott Gardner; a sister Marion Hall of Peabody; two grandchildren, Nicholas Platel (Alyssa) and Lillian Platel; two great grandchildren, Paxton and Levi and by a niece and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Edwin and Robert Gardner.

The family would like to thank the staff of Williamstown Commons for the loving care given over the past year. “Right On”

The funeral will be held on Saturday, July 23rd at 11:00 A.M. in the Stamford Community Church, Main Rd, Stamford.

Burial will follow in Millard Cemetery, Stamford.

There are no calling hours.
