Diane H. Freitag, 77

CHESHIRE, Mass. —

Mrs. Diane H. (Heinz) Freitag, 77, of Cheshire, died on Friday, July 1, 2022 of complications of recently diagnosed lymphoma. She was born in Adams on September 3, 1944, daughter of the late Armine F. and Helen A. (Paciorek) Heinz. She graduated from Adams High School in 1962. She then attended C.H. McCann Technical School Post Graduate Program where she earned a certificate from its Dietician course. Diane worked in the purchasing department at Berkshire Gas Co. until retiring in 2015 after almost 40 years of service.

She is survived by two daughters, Sue Burke (John Burke) of Big Sky, Montana, and Sheri Lancaster of Adams; three grandchildren whom she adored, Brecken Burke, Aspen Burke and Emily Lancaster; nephew Stefan Heinz and niece Ingrid Adams; her cousin and best friend Irene Ferrari of Adams; as well as several other cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin P Freitag, whom she married on October 5, 1963. She was also predeceased by her son, James M. Freitag, and her brother, Armine F. Heinz, Jr.

Diane was affectionately known as “Gram” by her grandchildren and many others whom she met over the 23 years since becoming a grandmother. Gram took care of everyone because “that is what you do for family”. Her family consisted of family, friends, grandkids, grandkid’s friends, and everyone she knew. She attended every one of her grandkids’ soccer games, basketball games, softball games, ski races, or any other event; she never missed any of them! She also enjoyed bowling, pickle ball, bingo, card making, playing pitch, making her own “meals on wheels” to take care of family, working in her beautiful gardens, and walking and playing ball with her crazy dog, Abby, who will be so lost without her.

Gram, with her sweet smile, will be remembered as one of the most special people you could ever meet. Her loving gestures will live on in the hearts of the lives she touched.

Funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society, 214 Barker Rd. Pittsfield, MA 01201. The PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, Adams, is in charge of arrangements. To leave a message of condolence, please go online to www.paciorekuneral.com

To Diane's Family, I was so stunned and saddened to hear of Diane's untimely passing. She was a member of our Thursday night bowling league and was usually the first one at the lanes waiting for bowling to start! All the teams will miss her. Sincerely, Terri Brown
