DALTON, Mass. – Sammie Kaley struck out 12 in a complete-game effort in the circle on Tuesday as the Wahconah softball team beat Hopkins Academy, 3-2.

Kaley helped her cause by going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Wahconah scored first in the bottom of the fourth, when Elena Iovieno singled and eventually scored on an error.

Hopkins got that run back in the top of the fifth and was threatening to do more damage when Mariah Barnes snared a line drive at shortstop and doubled off a runner at third to end the inning.

Wahconah took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

First, Kenadi Arnhold led off with a solo home run.

Then Barnes reached on an error and came around to score to give her team a two-run cushion.

Kaley allowed a run in the sixth but struck out four of Hopkins’ last five hitters, retiring the side in order in the seventh to secure the win.

Wahconah (4-4) hosts Mount Greylock on Thursday.
