SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Ethan O’Donnell turned in a complete-game, two-hit gem on the mound Tuesday as the Taconic baseball team edged Pope Francis, 1-0.

O’Donnell struck out just two Cardinals, but his defense had his back, playing error-free ball.

It was a scoreless game until the top of the sixth inning.

That is when Gavin O’Donnell led off with a double to left field.

He moved up to third on an errant pickoff throw and scored on Eddie Ferris’ sacrifice fly to right.

Ethan O’Donnell pitched around a one-out single in the sixth and retired the side in order in the seventh to preserve the win.

Damon Pause and Ethan O’Donnell had Taconic’s only other hits.

The Thunder (8-3) is in Cooperstown, N.Y., on Thursday to take on Lenox.
