WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Pine Cobble School will hold its annual Ski and Skate Sale on Friday, November 3, from 4 to 8 pm.

One of the largest such sales in the region, this longtime tradition offers an array of quality, top-brand new and gently used winter sports equipment, ski clothing, and accessories for adults and children. Skis (racing & parabolic with current bindings), poles, boots, snowboards, snowshoes, cross-country skiing equipment, hockey & figure skates, ski clothing, fleece, hats, gloves, parkas, pants, goggles, winter socks, liners, and more will be available.

Expert skiers, snowboarders, and skaters will be on hand for professional fittings and to answer all technical & sizing questions. Pine Cobble community members can help carry gear to cars.

This year, the Ski and Skate Sale is reviving its cafe with dinner options, refreshments, and a bake sale. The event also includes a raffle with ski passes from Jiminy Peak, tubing vouchers from Berkshire East, and gift certificates to area restaurants and businesses.

The school accepts gently used winter sports equipment on consignment for the sale from those wishing to upgrade or downsize their winter sports gear. Consignments  (60 percent to consignor/40 percent to the school) may be dropped off at Pine Cobble School from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1, and Thursday, November 2. All skis must be parabolic/shaped and must have a current binding.

The Ski and Skate Sale was founded more than 60 years ago by Polly Dickerson to fund the school's library, which she ran. It was revived in 2022 after a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, all proceeds support the Pine Cobble Parent Teacher Group, which funds educational and extracurricular programs and community events for the school. As an independent school, Pine Cobble School receives no state or federal funding.

Pine Cobble School is at 163 Gale Road in Williamstown, just off Route 43 from the east or half a mile past the Clark Art Institute. For more information, call: 413-458-4680.

Teacher of the Month: Karen DuCharme

By Sabrina DammsiBerkshires Staff

Karen DuCharme's integrated life skills class is designed to prepare all students for the world post high school.
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Mount Greylock Regional School life skills special education teacher Karen DuCharme has been selected as the April Teacher of the Month.

The Teacher of the Month series, in collaboration with Berkshire Community College, will feature distinguished teachers nominated by community members. You can nominate a teacher here.

She has been a teacher for 24 years, starting at Pittsfield High School, and has been at Mount Greylock Regional School for the last 11 years.

"I always say that I didn't really choose special education; special education chose me," she said

DuCharme initially wanted to be a physical therapist, but the universe had other plans for her. While attending Pittsfield High School, she did not want to have a study hall, so she opted to take an Introduction to Special Needs class.

From there, she knew that a career as a special education teacher was the right choice for her.

"Even when I was a student, I gravitated towards other students with different needs and tried to help them and wanted to help them," she said.
