Children's Book Reading and Ghost Tour At Ventfort Hall

LENOX, Mass. — On Saturday, Aug 5, at 5 pm, Ventfort Hall will host author and ghost tour guide Robert Oakes as he reads selections from his new book, "The Ghostly Tales of the Berkshires" for young readers. 
 
Robert will be joined by his wife and the book's illustrator, Katherine Oakes. The reading will be followed by a youth ghost tour of this historic mansion. The reading and tour are geared toward children ages 8–12.
 
Admission is $15 and suitable for children 8 to 12. Children are to be accompanied by an adult at no additional charge and may self-guide the mansion if they like while their children are on their tour. "The Ghostly Tales of the Berkshires," to be released on Aug.  7, 2023, will be Oaks' third book. September 26, 2022, saw the release of his second book, "Ghosts of Northwestern New Jersey," the follow-up to his 2020 debut, "Ghosts of the Berkshires."
 
Since 2010, Robert has led the ghost tours at Edith Wharton's The Mount in Lenox, MA, and has represented the museum and its ghosts on Syfy's Ghost Hunters, Jeff Belanger's New England Legends series on PBS, and The Apple Seed show on BYUradio. In 2021, Robert also began leading ghost tours at Ventfort Hall and the Church on the Hill, both in Lenox.
 
Robert has written and produced media for AAA, Canyon Ranch, and a number of other organizations and performs as part of the folk music duo Oakes and Smith. Robert has also taught elementary, middle, and high school English

Lenox Seeking New School Committee Member

LENOX, Mass. — The Lenox School Committee are seeking a resident to fill a now vacant seat on the school committee.
 
The Committee has the responsibility of implementing statutory requirements pertaining to public education while furthering the interests of citizens regarding the education of the community's youth.
 
Duties of School Committee Members include:
  • Review and approval of annual budgets
  • Hiring of the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and Director of Student Services, and evaluation of the Superintendent
  • Engagement of citizens and the wider community on topics of importance to education of youth
  • Monitoring of district progress relative to the five-year strategic plan
  • Participation in the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements with employees
  • Review, revision, and creation of school district policy
  • Approval of payment warrants for goods, services, and payroll
The term of this position will expire in May of 2025.
