Mass Destruction 16Us Stay Alive at Eastern Championship

SALISBURY, Md. – Mia Arpante collected three hits and a win in the circle on Thursday as the Mass Destruction 16U travel softball team went 2-0 to stay alive in the loser’s bracket at the double elimination USSSA Eastern Championship.
 
In the first game of the day, against the Arlington Sage Gold, Arpante doubled and drove in a run in a 6-5 win.
 
Kamryn Renata was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Sadie Aitken, Elena Iovieno and Amanda Pou each doubled in a six-hit attack for the destruction.
 
Pou went the distance in the circle in the six-inning game, striking out three and scattering seven hits.
 
That win sent the Destruction into a matchup with the Edge Kerns, and the Berkshire County squad emerged victorious with a 7-4 win.
 
Arpante got the start in the circle and went 4 and two-thirds innings, allowing three earned runs, before Pou finished up by striking out four and giving up one hit in 1 and one-third innings.
 
Arpante went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the win. Nevaeh Lopez was 2-for-3, and Natalie Arnhold drove in a pair of runs.
 
The Destruction Friday morning plays the Ohio Energy Alderman to stay alive in the tournament, which concludes on Saturday.

Questions Needed for Dalton Select Board Candidate Forum

DALTON, Mass. — Attention Dalton voters, iBerkshires is asking the public to submit questions for the upcoming Select Board Candidate Forum at the Senior Center on Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. 
 
During the event, Pittsfield Bureau Chief Brittany Polito will ask the four Select Board candidates questions curated from voter submissions. 
 
Submit a question by emailing our Dalton reporter, Sabrina Damms, at sdamms@iberkshires.com
 
The number of questions will be limited to the 90-minute time limit. 
 
In this forum, each candidate will begin with a two-minute opening statement. Following this, Polito will ask questions. 
 
For every question, the candidates will each have up to 1 1/2 minutes to answer, followed by 30 seconds each to rebut or follow up. The moderator can allow for further debate on a particular question if needed. 
 
At the conclusion of the event, we will allow each candidate up to 90 seconds to deliver a closing statement.
