PITTSFIELD, Mass. — With donations continuing to come in to support their newly established endowment for the Jeffrey Whitehouse / Paul Harris Scholarships, the Pittsfield Rotary Club announces that proceeds of their April 1, 2023 Auction at Berkshire Hills Country Club totaled over $100,000.

Over 200 supporters turned out to bid on the over $60,000 worth of goods and services donated to the auction. Those supporters bid in excess of $53,000, funds that will support the Rotary Club's good work in the community throughout the next year.

Turkey Angels and the many local food pantries are among the supported organizations by the club. Many of the local youth will benefit, too, with Rotary-sponsored camperships to local camps, including Gladys Allen Brigham, Mass Audubon, Berkshire Humane Society, and Barrington Stage Company's KidsAct!

The Rotary Club also supports local students with scholarships named in honor of previous Rotarian Gene Case, the Nash Family, and Rotary founder Paul Harris. Going forward, the club will be able to offer Paul Harris scholarships of higher denominations thanks to the endowment started in honor of long-serving Rotarian Jeffrey Whitehouse.

The night of the auction, paddles raised $44,000, which was matched by an anonymous donor for the auction-night endowment total of $88,000. The Club continues to accept tax-deductible donations toward the new scholarship sent to The Pittsfield Rotary Club Foundation / P.O. Box 78 / Pittsfield, MA 01202.

Pittsfield Road Cut Moratorium

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city's annual city road cut moratorium will be in effect from Nov. 29, 2024 to March 15, 2025.

The road cut moratorium is implemented annually, as a precautionary measure, to ensure roads are kept clear of construction work during snow events and to limit the cuts in roads that are filled with temporary patches while material is unavailable.

During this period, steel plates are not to be used to cover open excavations in roads. Also, the Department of Public Services and Utilities will not be issuing the following permits:

• General Permit
• Sewer Public Utility Connection Permit
• Stormwater Public Utility Connection Permit
• Water Public Utility Connection Permit
• Trench Permit

Limited exceptions will be made for emergency work that is determined to be an immediate threat to the health or safety of a property or its occupants.
