WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Pittsfield Babe Ruth 14-year-olds Sunday beat Vermont state champion Lyndon, 8-1, to advance to bracket play at the New England Regional Championship.
The win gave Pittsfield a 1-1 record in pool play and sent it to Tuesday morning's game at Billy Bullens Field against Warwick, R.I.
The winner of that game moves on to Tuesday's semi-final against Eastern Massachusetts champion Norfolk.
15-Year-Old Tournament
KEENE, N.H. -- The Pittsfield Babe Ruth 15-year-olds were edged by Vermont champion Three Corners, 4-3, on Sunday, but it still advanced to bracket play at the New England regional Championship.
With a record of 1-2 in pool play, Pittsfield earned a date on Monday against Waterford, Conn.
The winner of Monday's game moves on to a Tuesday morning regional semi-final against Eastern Massachusetts champion Lynn.
13-Year-Old Tournament
TRUMBULL, Conn. -- Jackson Almeida hit a pair of triples and drove in six runs Sunday to lead the Pittsfield Babe Ruth 13s to a 17-10 win over Trumbull in their pool play finale.
After going 3-0 in Pool A, Pittsfield secured a bye into the semi-finals of the New England Regional Championship.
On Tuesday, it will host the winner of one of Monday's quarter-finals.
On Sunday night, Pittsfield jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the top of the fifth, but Trumbull came roaring back with five runs in the bottom of the inning.
It was not until a five-run seventh that Pittsfield got some breathing room again.
Morre Fried went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and Boo Socie doubled twice in a 16-hit attack.
Pittsfield used four pitchers. Cam Hillard struck out three in two scoreless innings.

County Stars Shine on Championship Saturday

Three Berkshire County high school basketball teams claimed Western Massachusetts crowns on Championship Saturday.
And one area high school wrestler earned a title of his own at the Division 3 State Championships.
Six area basketball teams made it to the final game of the six divisions – three boys and three girls – where county schools are classified in Western Mass.
In Class B boys, both the Pittsfield Generals and Monument Mountain Spartans made it to the tournament finale in a rematch of last year’s final. This time around, Monument Mountain came out on top at the Boys and Girls Club.
In Class C boys, Drury reached its final only to fall to Granby in overtime on Saturday.
The county took home two girls basketball regional titles.
Class B Pittsfield edged South Hadley in a back-and-forth battle at Holyoke Community College, where the Lenox girls fell to Renaissance in Class C.
