PITTSFIELD, Mass.  Bryan House has joined 18 Degrees, Family Services for Western MA, as the Vice President of Youth Development.

In this role, House will lead Pittsfield Community Connection and North Adams’ West Main Connection. Additionally, he will oversee other programs within the agency that provide support and services for youth that provide opportunities for young people to reach their full potential.

House previously worked at the Berkshire District Attorney Office. House was also the former Deputy Director at Berkshire Community Action Council (BCAC).

"Bryan significantly advanced the Berkshire District Attorney Office's mission to empower our community's future leaders," said District Attorney Andrea Harrington on House's departure. "He led our efforts to raise the voices of the most vulnerable community members, expand relationships with our diversion program's youth service partners, and build a culture of inclusivity in Berkshire County high schools. I am excited he will continue those efforts with our partners at 18 Degrees, which shares the same vision and hope for the next generation.”

Prior to the Deputy Director role, House directed the agency’s Project RECONNECT program, serving Berkshire youth and young adults with job skill and development training, and holistic mentoring. House also played seven years as a professional baseball player in the Chicago Cubs and Texas Ranger organizations, and he is a member of several community boards of directors.  House lives with his family in Housatonic, where he also coaches his son’s baseball team, and can sometimes be found playing music in local establishments.

"We are thrilled to welcome Bryan to 18 Degrees with his wealth of experience working with young people and his deep connections to this community."  As we look to advance our work with young people, we are confident that Bryan will provide a framework for his team that connects young people to their community and adult mentors, as well as provides a platform to bring their voices to the forefront in our social justice efforts."

Safety Solutions Proposed for Berkshire Mall Intersection

By Brittany PolitoiBerkshires Staff
LANESBOROUGH, Mass. — A speed bump and traffic mirror have been proposed at the reportedly problematic intersection of Old State Road and the Berkshire Mall entrance.

Last week, abutters approached the Select Board with concerns about drivers ignoring stop signs and speeding through the area. Target owns its building and is the lone business left on the property.

"When you turn into Old State Road, our driveways are right there," Judy Bennett said. "Nobody stops, nobody slows down to come around that corner. They go faster and that's where someone is going to get hurt."

Carl Bennett added, "We are taking our lives into our own hands when we pull out during the day."

The Old State Road bridge connects the mall and Old State Road to Route 8. Abutter Pauline Hunt would like to see it closed entirely, making the Connector Road the access point from Route 8.

"That entrance isn't necessary," she said.

"It's chaos. There's an entrance over by the bike path that would serve everybody, there would be no problem, and there are lights at the end of it, it's a dream to get into there. I don't see the reason that chaos is there."
