ADAMS, Mass. — After an opening week loss, the Hoosac Valley football team got back on track with a commanding 44-14 win over Taconic on Friday night.

It was clear Hoosac Valley (1-1) had their sights set on getting in the win column Friday night when they took the opening kickoff all the way down to the 1-yard line. Carson Meczywor punched it in from there for the first score of the game giving, and the Hurricanes made the two-point conversion to go up, 8-0.

After a quick three and out for Taconic, Hoosac got the ball back and got right back to pounding the ball on the ground. After a nice drive, it was Meczywor who ran it in again. Hoosac closed the first quarter with a 14-0 lead and looked like it was ready to build on that performance.

“Momentum is what football is about, sustaining and getting off to the start we did,” Hoosac Valley coach Mike Bostwick said. “The kickoff return and some nice runs from Shaun and Aaron and we just wanted to keep the foot on the gas.”

Even with all that momentum, Taconic came out in the second quarter and got on the board with some nice running. It was Dez Merced who finally punched it in bringing them within one score, 14-8.

Merced finished with both Taconic touchdowns, getting the second on a kickoff return later in the game.

But after his first score, it was all Hoosac Valley as the Hurricanes continued running all over Taconic.

Aaron Bush who broke a 49-yard touchdown to give the Hurricanes a 22-8 lead. Bush finished with two touchdowns and 124 yards on the ground.

He also showed his skills on the defensive side with an interception just before half. Hoosac Valley would take that 22-8 lead into the break and not look back. The Canes ran for more than yards and scored five touchdowns on the ground thanks to the work of the offensive line.

“Our backs did a hell of a job today, but the offensive line is what paved the way,” Bostwick said. :We had the mentality today that we were going to get after it and move guys and that will be something we build on.”

Hoosac Valley tacked on one more touchdown through the air capping off a great all around game. It will hope to carry this momentum into next week when they host Chicopee. Taconic will head back to the drawing board and get ready for Wahconah.
