WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Blackstone Valley Tech football team Saturday pitched a shutout for three quarters to earn a 21-6 win over Wahconah in the State Division 7 semi-finals.
For the second year in a row, BVT denied Wahconah a trip to Gillette Stadium and the state title game. And, coupled with Hoosac Valley's' loss to St. Bernard's in Saturday's D8 semis, Berkshire County was shut out of the state finals for the first time since 2015.
Tim Clayton ran it in from the 6 for Wahconah late in the first quarter to cut into an early BVT 7-0 lead.
But that was all the offense the high-powered Wahconah attack could manage on the day.
Blackstone Valley added a second touchdown throw by Scott Mackay midway through the third quarter to extend its lead to 14-6.
Mackay ran it in from the 1 late in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Wahconah, which last went to the state final in 2016, finishes the season 9-2 with its third straight Western Massachusetts championship.
