ADAMS, Mass - The Hoosac Valley Hurricanes squared off against the Pittsfield High School Generals in a Berkshire County football matchup under the lights at Renfrew field Friday night.
Both teams entered the game with their hopes alive of making the Western Mass tournament, but only a win could keep one team’s hope alive.
Hoosac, led by its rushing attack of quarterback Vance Eugene and Brandon Ellsworth, emerged with a 52-22 win.
Eugene scored twice as Ellsworth scored three times for the Hurricanes. Pittsfield received scoring plays from Edwin Rodriguez, Shawn Morgan, and Griff Manns.
Hoosac started the scoring early and continued the scoring often.
Hoosac wide receiver Nick Waterman converted a tough one-handed catch on a Hurricanes third down to put his team onto the Generals side of the field. From there, Ellsworth was able to convert the tremendous play into point scoring on a 15-yard rush.
On the next Pittsfield possession, it fumbled the ball, and Hoosac was able to recover. Hoosac quarterback Vance Eugene was able to convert the turnover into points with a 40-yard rushing touchdown.
Pittsfield turned the ball over again on the following possession, Hoosac’s Max Shafer intercepted a pass and returned the ball of a touchdown. Hoosac got on the scoreboard two more times before half time. Eugene scored his second touchdown on a 1-yard rush and Ellsworth scored his second touchdown of the game on another 15-yard rush.
The first half ended with Hoosac Valley ahead, 38-0.
The second half started with another Hoosac touchdown. Shafer was able to score his second touchdown of the game, this time on 1-yard rush.
Pittsfield joined the scoring midway through the third quarter when Rodriguez rushed for a 40-yard touchdown. Pittsfield was then able to stop Hoosac and score on the following possession. Morgan scored a 1-yard rushing touchdown. Hoosac Valley scored another touchdown as Ellsworth punched in his third rushing touchdown of the game. Pittsfield added another touchdown in the last minutes of the game, scored by Manns.
The season’s final regular season week sees Pittsfield taking on city rival Taconic on Friday at Wahconah Park and Hoosac Valley at home against Wahconah.
