DALTON, Mass. -- In honor of Senior Night, most of the Wahconah football team's seniors got to enjoy the second half of the game as spectators.

That is becuase junior Will Genaway threw for 117 yards and three touchdowns in a 36-0 first half en route to a 42-0 victory over Mount Greylock.

Genaway directed scoring drives on each of his team's first five possessions before taking the rest of the night off along with most of the Wahconah starters.

He completed scoring throws of 18 yards to Matt Donnelly, 8 to Cole Morrison and 50 down the left sideline to Matt Salvatore.

"He has a cannon," Wahconah coach Gary Campbell said. "Will can throw the football. You saw it on  one of those deep passes. He put it on a rope.

"Only good things are going to come. He's a junior. He's going to get better and better. He's going to get bigger and stronger and faster. He has a lot in front of him."

How much more meaningful football Wahconah (4-3) has in front of it depends largely on the outcome of next Friday's showdown at Pittsfield (6-1), a winner Friday night in an independent game against Amherst.

After rolling into the Western Massachusetts playoffs as a prohibitive favorite the last couple of years, Wahconah is in a win-or-go-home situation on the last weekend of the regular season this time around.

"I'm not sure where points are and what things are," Campbell said. "I know this: Our backs are against the wall, and we can't lose another game. That's just life. That's the position we've put ourselves into.

"It is a motivation. The kids do want to make the playoffs. All we can do is control what we can do and go out there and do the best we can and hope for a 'W.' "

Wahconah needed just five plays to get on the board on Friday night. After forcing a three-and-out and recovering a punt at the 30, Evan Garvey (54 yards), Tyler Cataldi (53 yards) and Salvatore got them down to 18 on four carries. Genaway then hit Donnelly for the score.

The next drive took just three plays after a 44-yard punt return by Garvey. The capper was the 8-yard pass to Morrison. Garvey ran in his second 2-point conversion of the night to make it 16-0.

Garvey scored a TD the next time Wahconah touched the ball, capping a 61-yard drive.

Mount Greylock (3-4) finally got some offense going on its next possession, stringing together two first downs before Garvey picked off a pass and returned it 39 yards to midfield.

Wahconah capitalized on its first play from scrimmage after the turnover when Genaway threw that rope down the left sideline to Salvatore to make it 28-0. Garvey's conversion pushed the lead to 30.

Wahconah's last possesion of the half featured a 27-yard Genaway pass to set the stage for Garvey's 3-yard run to paydirt.

In the second half, sophomore Jeremy Girard hit a couple of passes for 35 yards, and freshman Connor Noyes scored on a 16-yard run to cap the scoring.

Mount Greylock finishes on Friday night at Smith Vocational.
