WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Pittsfield girls basketball team defeated Mount Greylock, 52-46, Tuesday evening.

Mount Greylock trailed throughout the entire game and was down 31-19 going into the second half. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter when they were able to cut Pittsfield’s lead to 3 points with a 3-point shot from senior Lucy Barrett to put the score at 40-37 with 5:33 to go.

“I thought that we were a little winded,” Pittsfield coach Joe Racicot said. “You know, they hit some key shots.”

Although the Mounties were able to cut the lead to three; a few possessions later a technical foul was called on them, sending Peyton Steinman to the line. Fortunately for Greylock, she hit only one of the foul shots, but on the next play she sank a 3-pointer to make it 48-41 with 1:23 remaining.

Greylock was able to put up a few more shots, one being a 3-pointer from Sarah Stripp with 13.7 on the clock, putting them down by only four points.

A timeout was called right after by Greylock coach Paul Barrett, but Pittsfield was able to inbound the ball and put in another basket to leave the final score at 52-46.

“We just played a horrible first half,” Paul Barrett said. “That wasn’t the way we can play, and that had to change number one. And offensively we wanted to set some more pick and rolls.”

In the first half, Greylock was rushing its shots and not taking good looks at the basket; defensively it wasn't boxing out, giving Pittsfield second opportunities which they capitalized on.

“We competed with a good team,” Paul Barrett said. “I know we’re struggling to finish games, but we know what we have to work on and just as long as we keep improving every day.”

Lucy Barrett finished the game with 27 points for the Mounties, and Jenna Benzinger had seven. For Pittsfield, Steinman had 15 and both Allie Hunt and Lauren Carnevale finished with 10.

Mount Greylock (2-5) hosts Drury Friday at 7 p.m. and Pittsfield (5-1) hosts Mount Anthony of Bennington, Vt.
