NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Amaya Todd converted a baseline jump shot with seven seconds left Tuesday to give the McCann Tech girls basketball team a 35-33 win over Smith Vocational in the Hornets' season finale.
"We've been working with her all season on being confident with her shot and it was great to see her take, and make, a huge shot like this," McCann Tech coach Justin Kratz said.
Todd finished with a team-high 10 points.
Alexis Lemanski scored nine, and Hannah Boisvert each had six for the Hornets (4-13).
Makayla Tatro scored 12 to lead the Vikings, including 11 in the second quarter before the Hornets did some improvising.
"In the second quarter [Tatro] really got going on us with her speed," Kratz said. " In the second half the girls wanted to play a box-and-one on her, which we had worked on for a game earlier in the season but had not prepared for this game.
"I'm glad they asked as they held her to just 1 free throw in the second half and did a great job putting in the box and one on the fly. A lot of credit goes to Hannah [Boisvert], who played her one on one the whole second half without a sub and made her life tough out there."
McCann Tech rode home with their second straight win and third win in five games to finish the season.
"We're going to miss Hannah and her hard work and leadership next year, but it was a great way to end the season with two wins in a row," Kratz said. "It was a lot of fun coaching this group this year. The win column might not have been the flashiest but it was a young group who never quit, improved tremendously, and I'm proud of them for the work they put in and how far they came this season."
