SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Emma Goewey scored 15 points Tuesday to lead the Mount Everett girls basketball team to a 37-33 win over McCann Tech.
Emily Steuernagle scored 11, and Maggy Sarnacki added six as the Eagles evened their record at 2-2.
“We were short a couple girls with the flu, and I was proud of how our girls stepped up and played tonight,” Mount Everett coach Josh King said. “We picked up our defense in the third quarter which led to us limiting the number of opportunities for McCann and when Emma picked up her fourth foul with four minutes to go in the third, things got a little interesting.
“The great thing about basketball is the other teammates stepped up with defense and offense tonight. Emily Steuernagle had a great game on the defensive end and would lead to her scoring opportunities with her steals. Makayla Carpenter stepped up on the defensive end and did a lot of things to assist. It was a complete effort, though, by everyone and everyone earned this one.”
Macey Tatro and Emily Glasier each scored eight for the Hornets, who got seven points from Hannah Boisvert.
McCann Tech (1-3) is off until Dec. 29 when it goes to Pope Francis.
Mount Everett Wednesday travels to Lee for a game rescheduled from last week.
