NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Caroline Maloney scored 11 of her game-high 13 points in the second quarter to help the Lee girls basketball team overcome a small deficit en route to a 44-27 win over McCann Tech on Wednesday night.
The Wildcats trailed, 12-9, after one but outscored their hosts by a margin of 13-6 to takes 22-19 lead into half-time.
Lee then closed the door defensively in the second half.
“Lee outplayed us in the second half,” McCann Tech coach Kathy Budaj said. “They held us to nine points. We kept turning the ball over and they converted on many of our mistakes.
“Their defense made us hesitant and reluctant to shoot the ball. We let down and did not show up for the fourth quarter.”
Emma Puleri and Carina Brown each scored 11 points in the win.
Izzy LaCasse scored eight for the Hornets, who got six from Amaya Todd.
McCann Tech (8-10) will learn its next opponent on Saturday, when the PVIAC’s Western Massachusetts regional tournament brackets are released.
Lee (13-4) finishes the regular season at Lenox on Thursday night.
