CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Frontier's Amelia Sobieski scored 14 points and grabbed 17 rebounds Saturday morning to lead her team to a 45-44 win over Lee in the opener of the eighth annual Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase at Hoosac Valley High School.
Frontier outscored the Wildcats, 7-2, over the last three minutes and defended a Lee 3-pointer with 4 seconds left to seal the win in a back-and-forth game where neither team led by more than six points.
Emma Puleri scored 14 points to lead Lee, which took control with an 11-6 third quarter after trailing by four points at half-time.
Lee's defense was the difference in that third quarter, as Brianna Kelly, Carina Brown, Brown again and Puleri stole the ball on four of Frontier's first five possessions.
Meanwhile, Puleri, who scored just two in the first half, scored six in the third quarter to help Lee take a 37-34 lead going to the fourth.
The lead was five when Brown set up Puleri for a 3-pointer from the corner on the right wing with 4 minutes, 45 seconds left on the clock to make it 43-38.
But Frontier scored the next four points to draw within one when Kaitlin Macklin (10 points) scored in the post with about 1:40 on the clock.
Puleri hit the front end of a one-and-one on Lee's next possession to make it a two-point game.
But Frontier got a conventional three-point playu from Sobieski to take the lead with 1:18 on the clock and did not allow Lee to score again.
The Wildcats (7-6) goes to Drury on Monday.
