HADLEY, Mass. -- Samantha Jenks hit five 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 29 points as the Hopkins Academy girls basketball team defeated McCann Tech, 64-33, on Friday in the Western Massachusetts Division 4 quarter-finals.
“These girls have worked hard this year and have had a great run,” McCann Tech coach Kathy Budaj said. “Tonight, Hopkins shot lights out. We could not get our shots to fall so it was hard to build any momentum.”
Kaylee Tatro scored 12 to lead three Hornets (13-9) in double figures. Grace Towler and Izzy LaCasse added 11 and 10, respectively.
Third-seeded Hopkins (16-6) moves on to next week’s sectional semi-finals at UMass-Amherst against Ware (18-4), which edged Lenox at the buzzer on Friday night.
“[Hopkins is] a good team, and playing in their gym is a tough atmosphere,” Budaj sad. “Overall, it was a great learning experience for the team and we are hoping to build off of it.”
