NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Brooke DiGennaro scored 24 points and Hayley Shook scored 20 as the Drury girls basketball team defeated Lee, 70-61, to clinch the Berkshire County South Division Championship on Senior Night at Bucky Bullett Gymnasium.
The Blue Devils (10-9) jumped out toa 42-25 lead at half-time and held off Lee down the stretch en route to their seventh straight win.
“We lost early in the year but learned a lot,” Drury coach Ian Downey said. “I think early in the year, we might have lost the lead. But I the girls are now playing with confidence, and I think it’s why we have been able to go on the run that we are on.
“Hayley and Brooke were fantastic tonight. Alison [Felix] was sick and clearly wasn’t herself, but she battled through it. Laura [Thomas] and Tess [Zoito] had another solid game down low.”
Felix finished with three points. Zoito scored 13, and Thomas added six.
Three Lee Wildcats finished in double figures. Shannon Finnegan led the way with 20, and Brianna Hawley and Lydia Simone added 17 and 15, respectively.
“Shannon and Brianna were fantastic tonight, and Lee never quit,” Downey said. “It was our goal to get the lead over 20 coming out of the half, but I give coach [Rick] Puleri credit as he had his team ready to play in the third.”
The Wildcats (3-14) go to Mount Everett on Thursday.
Drury finishes the regular season on Thursday when it hosts North Division champion Hoosac Valley in a crossover game.
“Every game in Berkshire County is a battle,” Downey said. “There’s no easy games. It’s a huge accomplishment for our girls to win the South. It’s a credit to how hard they have worked this year.”
