SHEFFIELD, Mass. -- Karli Retzel scored 17 points and made two big plays down the stretch Wednesday to lead the Lee High girls basketball team to a 40-38 win over Monument Mountain in the first round of the South County Tournament.
With 40 seconds left, Retzel hit a basket to tie the game, 38-38. Then with six seconds on the clock, she set up Shannon Finnegan (six points) for the game-winner.
Monument missed a 3-pointer to win it at the buzzer.
Mikayla DiSantis scored eight points for Lee (5-0), which got six from Brianna Hawley.
Hailey Higgins scored eight, and Addie McLaughlin added seven for Monument Mountain, which plays Lenox in the tournament’s consolation game on Friday at 5:30.
Lee plays in the championship game at 7 against the host Mount Everett Eagles.
