CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Alie Mendel scored 25 points, and a slow start doomed the Wahconah girls basketball team in a 57-37 loss at Hoosac Valley on Saturday.
The Hurricanes (16-1) outscored their guests, 17-2, in the first eight minutes with Mendel hitting a pair of 3-pointers to help lead the way.
Kailynne Frederick scored 15 points, and Lexi Mercier added 11 for Hoosac.
Wahconah was led by Lily Pudlo with 11, and Amelia Dougherty and Ashley Zink with eight points apiece.
Hoosac Valley heads east on Monday to face Lincoln-Sudbury in the first round of the Foxborough Tournament.
Wahconah (8-10) goes to Pittsfield on Monday.
