Aitken Leads Pittsfield Girls to Semi-Finals

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Bella Aitken scored 18 points Thursday to lead the Pittsfield girls basketball team to a 71-34 win over Commerce in the quarter-finals of the Western Massachusetts Division 2 tournament.

Peyton Steinman and Allie Hunt added 13 points apiece for PHS, which pulled away with a 22-12 third quarter after leading, 28-18, at half-time.

Hunt scored six points in that third quarter, which also saw the Generals get 3-pointers from Steinman, Aitken and Natasha Shade.

Gerliz Hernandez scored 18 points to lead Commerce.

Third-seeded Pittsfield (17-4) will face No. 2 Belchertown (16-4) in the sectional semifinals next week at Curry Hicks Cage at the University of Massachusetts. The Orioles earned a bye into the semi-final round.
