Generals Find Their Way against Braves
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Coming off an untimely three-game losing streak, the Pittsfield girls' basketball team righted the ship with a 60-30 win over rival Taconic in the final game of the regular season on Wednesday night.
The Braves, who finished the year at 2-18, hung around in the first half, trailing 23-17 at the break. The Generals' offense kicked into high gear in the second half, however, outscoring their guests 37-13 to end the game. Senior Courtney McLaughlin led the way for the Pittsfield, sinking a pair of 3-pointers on her way to team-high 17 points. Freshman forward Allie Hunt, who missed the previous game against Drury with an illness, made her presence felt with 13 points and seven rebounds.
Junior Dominique Satrape and sophomore Trinity Cookis also chipped in with 10 points apiece for the Generals, while senior center Rachael Hunt controlled the glass with a game-high 11 boards.
Taconic received a big night from junior Angela O'Neil, who drained five threes on her way to a 17-point night. Sophomore forward Brianna Rogers also helped out with eight points and four rebounds for the visitors.
It was a long season for the Braves, but better things appear to be on the horizon for second-year coach Matt Mickle. Taconic returns all of its major players next year and has a talented junior class that has gained plenty of experience over the past two seasons.
Pittsfield (13-7) will now wait to see where it is placed in the upcoming Division 1 Western Mass. tournament. Seedings and matchups will be released by the MIAA on Saturday afternoon.
