GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Shayne Moynihan scored 16 points, and the Hampshire girls basketball team Monday held off Monument Mountain to earn a 43-23 win.

The Spartans trailed by as many as 18 in the second half before cutting the margin to eight points with about 3 minutes, 40 seconds left to play in the game, Monument Mountain coach Joe Valerio said.

“We missed an open 3, which would have cut it to five [points],” Valerio said. “We had a great run. It was just too much of a deficit to overcome in the end.”

Brooke Decker made three of her four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter on the way to a 12-point game.

Mallory Lucey finished with five points in the loss.

Monument Mountain (0-4) is at Lenox on Thursday.
