Geddes Leads Way as Spartans Get First Win in 2OT
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Polly Geddes scored 17 points Monday to lead the Monument Mountain girls basketball team to a 49-47, come-from-behind, double-overtime victory over Taconic.
The Thunder stormed out to a 14-0 lead after one quarter, but Monument Mountain answered to get back within a basket, 23-21, at half-time.
“Our team never quits, even when we were down by 30 or 40 points,” Monument Mountain coach John Perreault said.
Taconic held a 35-29 lead going to the fourth quarter, but the Spartans rallied back to force OT.
Geddes scored four points in the first OT to match Taconic’s Jalisa Jessup (13 points), and the teams needed one more period to decide things.
In the second OT, Caroline Becker and Ynes Bourdon each scored a pair, and the Spartans outscored their guests, 4-2, to take the win.
Jaziyah Forte scored 10 points, and Alex Tenney added eight for Monument Mountain.
Jaelynn Walker scored 15 to lead Taconic, which got 10 from Kiannah Josephs.
The Thunder (3-10) is at South Hadley on Thursday.
Monument Mountain (1-14) hosts Lenox on Feb. 6.
