Blue Devils Finish Strong to Top Monument Mountain
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Jacinta Felix scored 20 points, and the Drury girls basketball team Saturday outscored Monument Mountain, 28-19, in the second half, to earn a 44-34 win.
“Obviously the first half wasn’t one of our best,” Drury coach Ian Downey said. “Defensively, I was happy, but we were our own worst enemies with turnovers.
“At half time my only message to them was take care of the ball. That is what I felt was the difference in the game. We decided to come out with pressure in the second half, and it led to some easier baskets.”
Six different Blue Devils found the basket in the third quarter. Felix took over in the fourth, scoring 11 points.
“Jacinta Felix was great but I do want to call out Marley Brothers, who stepped up big today,” Downey said. “She finished well around the rim and got some big rebounds for us. She’s been in our program for six years and hasn’t had much time on the court but it was great to see her patience pay off.”
Brothers scored eight points, and Brooke Bishop and Norah Wood each scored five in the win.
Monument Mountain got 11 points from Jaziyah Forte, and Alex Tenney added nine.
The Spartans (0-3) are at Agawam on Friday.
Drury (1-1) hosts Mount Greylock on Tuesday.
