Greylock Can't Keep Pace with Lenox
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock girls' basketball team fell to 1-4 against South Division teams on Friday, losing 52-33 at home to Lenox.
The Millionaires took control of the game early, jumping out to an 18-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. Lenox ( 7-2) padded its margin to 16 points by halftime and cruised to victory in the second half. Hayden Zinchuk led all scorers with 14 points, while teammates Liz Mitts and Jaclyn Gigliotti chipped in with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
"We continue to struggle versus the stronger teams in the South," Mounties head coach Paul Barrett said. "Lenox played with the savvy of a veteran team, getting double-digit points from their three returning starters."
It's been an up-and-down season for Greylock, which dropped its second straight game to fall to 3-5 on the year. Barrett's squad started the season off with three straight losses before coming back to win three straight games. Scoring points has been an issue lately for the Mounties, who managed only 33 points for the second straight game on Friday.
Junior forward Mackenzie Flynn had her shooting touch going against the Millionaires, however, going 3 for 4 from 3-point land on her way to a team-high 11 points. Sophomore guard Lucy Barrett added seven points and three assists, while senior forward Margot Besnard was a force on the boards with 14 rebounds.
Greylock next hosts North County rival Drury at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
