CHESHIRE, Mass. – Ashlyn Lesure scored 17 points Monday to lead the Hoosac Valley girls basketball team to a 56-53 overtime win over South Hadley.

Lesure scored 5 points, and Genvevieve Lagess (12 points) added four in the overtime period, when the Hurricanes outscored the Tigers, 12-9.

Emma Meczywor scored 11 points, including a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, when the Hurricanes outscored the visitors, 10-9, to force OT.

The victory avenged a 73-48 road loss to South Hadley in mid-January.

South Hadley came into the game with a record of 13-1 and the No. 3 ranking statewide in Division 4.

Defending Division 5 State Champion Hoosac Valley (14-3) currently is the top-ranked team in latest MIAA in-season power rankings.

The Hurricanes take an eight-game winning streak into Thursday’s regular season finale at Amherst-Pelham.
