Lesure Scores 1,000th Point in Hurricanes' Hoophall Win

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Hoosac Valley senior Ashlyn Lesure sank a big free throw to hit a milestone and kept on adding big points as the Hurricanes earned a 72-70 overtime win over Springfield International Charter in a bracket final at the Hoophall Invitational.
 
Lesure came into the game needing eight points to score the 1,000th of her career at Hoosac Valley.
 
She reached the milestone with a free throw in the second quarter and went on to add 19 more points to help the Hurricanes, the fourth-ranked team in Division 5 in the state, beat the Bulldogs, the 14th-ranked team in D3.
 
SICS had control early on its home court, taking a 31-25 lead into half-time.
 
Hoosac Valley responded with a 22-point third quarter to take a 47-46 lead.
 
Lesure scored six points in the third quarter. Reagan Shea scored eight of her game-high 22 points in the comeback.
 
Aniyah Richardson hit a pair of 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 17 points to help SICS come back and tie it in the fourth.
 
In OT, Hoosac Valley got six more points from Shea and went 7-for-8 at the free throw line as a team to pull out the victory.
 
The Hurricanes (9-3) take a three-game winning streak into Wednesday’s home game against Amherst-Pelham, when Hoosac Valley will have a chance to qualify for the state tournament with a win.
