Carpenter, Mendel Named Co-MVPs in Berkshire County
The Berkshire County girls basketball coaches Monday named Hoosac Valley senior Alie Mendel and Mount Everett senior Gwendolyn Carpenter co-Most Valuable Players for the league for 2018-19.
"The voting was so close and so much ahead of anyone else, and because of both of their accomplishments this season, Gwen the all-time [county] leading scorer and Western Mass final, and Alie State Champion and overcoming cancer this year," Hoosac Valley coach Ron Wojcik said. "The group felt there was no question in our minds this was the way to go. Both deserving kids."
The all-Berkshire team includes Mendel, Carpenter, Hoosac Valley's Lexi Mercier, Wahconah's Maria Gamberoni, Taconic's Taea Bramer, Drury's Brooke DiGennaro and Pittsfield's Alexis Garvey.
The all-North Division squad features: Hoosac Valley's Riley Robinson and Shaleigh Levesque; Taconic's Ciany Conyers, Johnahyah Curry and Aliyah Phillips; Wahconah's Noelle Furlong, Victoria Gamberoni and Abbie Steinman; Monument Mountain's Meredith Powell and Fiona Horan; and Pittsfield's Jordan Lummus and Natasha Shade.
