Berkshire County girls high school basketball, go to the head of the class.

Or, in this case, the Classes.

Berkshire County girls teams came out on top of the Western Massachusetts Class B, Class C and Class D tournaments in championship games on Saturday.

The county did not have a winner in Class A, but that’s only because none of its teams compete in the largest bracket of the Western Mass/District 1 tournament.

It was a successful day of post-season basketball throughout the 413 for county teams.

In addition to the Wahconah, Taconic and Hoosac Valley girls each taking home a regional tournament trophy, the boys from Hoosac Valley and Taconic each won a Western Mass crown and the McCann Tech boys won at home to advance to Sunday’s State Vocational tournament championship game.

That means that of eight Berkshire County teams competing in post-season tournament games on Saturday, six emerged victorious.

The outliers were Lee’s girls, who lost to Hoosac Valley, and Drury’s boys, who battled back valiantly before running out of time in their Western Mass Class C title.

All of the teams playing on Championship Saturday in the Western Mass tourneys have plenty of basketball left this winter.

On Tuesday, play begins in the state championship tournaments, where 19 county teams are alive and competing in three boys and three girls divisions.
