Drury's Defense Keys Road Win at Lee
LEE, Mass. -- The Drury girls basketball team outscored Lee, 13-2, in the first quarter en route to a 68-39 win on Monday night.
“Great effort from all 12 girls tonight,” Drury coach Ian Downey said. “I thought we set the tone early with our pressure that first quarter but let them claw back into the game in the second.
“At halftime we talked about how important the first four minutes of the quarter would be. It’s their home court so we knew how important coming out of half-time would be. Either we pushed the lead or they got back in the game. Fortunately for us we moved the ball extremely well and got into a good rhythm both offensively and defensive as we put together, what I thought, was our best quarter of basketball all year.”
Haley Shook scored all 12 of her points in that third quarter.
She was one of three Blue Devils in double figures as Brooke DiGennaro led the way with 18 and Anna Dix scored 10.
Lee was led by Carina Brown with 11, and Lydia Simone scored eight.
“I need to give the Lee girls credit, though,” Downey said. :They are young and physical and they never stopped fighting despite the score. Coach Puleri’s team will be tough for the next few years.”
Lee (5-8) hosts Mount Everett on Thursday.
Drury (8-5) hosts Mount Greylock on Thursday.
