Athlete of the Week: Shannon Garvey
After struggling in a close loss to Lee in the second game of the season, Drury's Shannon Garvey has stepped up her play in the past three contests, averaging 14.6 points and six rebounds per game.
She started off her recent tear with a 15-point, five-rebound, three-assist effort in a 61-32 win over Mount Greylock in the consolation game of the Gene Wein Holiday Tournament. Five days later, the senior center netted a game-high 14 points to go along with five rebounds in a hard-fought 35-28 victory over rival Hoosac Valley.
Garvey ended her strong three-game stretch with a game-high 15 points and eight rebounds in a 43-25 win over Amherst in the New Leadership Holiday Classic last Friday. Overall, Garvey is leading the Blue Devils in scoring this season with 9.7 points per game.
"Shannon has been a major factor in our 5-1 start this season, " Drury head coach John Franzoni said. "Through her hard work and dedication throughout the year, Shannon has developed into an excellent player on both offense and defense. She is also a positive role model and has done a great job as one of our captains and leaders this year."
