Belchertown Girls Top Drury
BELCHERTOWN, Mass. – Chloe Laroche scored 16 points Friday to lead the Belchertown girls basketball team to a 50-44 win over Drury.
Early foul trouble for the Blue Devils allowed the Orioles to build a 32-19 lead at half-time.
Drury rallied in the second half but could not get over the hump.
Jacinta Felix scored 13 points to lead Drury, which got 10 from Delaney Hayden and eight from Lily Mirante.
Drury coach Ian Downey said his younger players played a big role in keeping the game close.
“I know points is the first thing people look at to see the impact of a player and certainly Delaney hit some big shots for us to keep us in the game, but also want to call out Addisyn [Hayden] and Elise [Daly] for coming in and controlling the paint and Ash [Hayden] and Lily helping cause turnovers on defense,” Downey said. Them stepping up was a big reason we didn’t lose tonight’s game by 25.”
Drury (3-2) goes to Mount Greylock on Tuesday.
