SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Kayla McGrath scored 14 points, and the Drury girls basketball team officially qualified for the Division 5 State Tournament with a 54-24 win over Mount Everett on Monday evening.

“Feels good to officially punch our ticket for the post-season,” Drury coach Ian Downey said. “After Friday’s disappointing loss, I felt like the girls really responded in a big way. We came out and hit some shots which I think gave us confidence. We are a different team on the offensive and defensive end when we play with confidence.

“Despite the score I felt like the Mount Everett girls kept fighting so kudos to them and their coach.”

Emma Goewey scored a game-high 16 points to lead Mount Everett.

“Not our night tonight,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “We had a tough time handling the press and put ourselves behind in the second quarter. The girls did respond well in the start of the third to get it within 15 but just too many turnovers led to our downfall tonight.”

Drury got 11 points from Jacinta Felix and nine from Alyssa Russell as it wrapped up its regular season with a 10-8 record. The likely next stop for the Blue Devils is next week’s Western Mass regional tournament; the seedings for that PVIAC event will be released on Saturday.

“We will get in the gym and work on some stuff that I have been putting off – end of game scenarios – and wait for seeds to come out at the end of the week,” Downey said.

Mount Everett (6-11) goes to Renaissance on Wednesday.
