“We lost the game in the third quarter and from the free throw line,” Drury coach Ian Downey said. “You can’t expect to win close games when you go 6-for-17 from the free throw line. We struggled to score in the third, which got them their lead.
“We were up 41-40 but we gave up an offensive rebound off of a free throw. Avery Klingersmith made a tough shot but If we secure that rebound, I think we win the game.”
Kayla McGrath scored 14 points, and Brooke Bishop added nine for the Blue Devils.
“The one thing I was extremely proud of was how hard we kept fighting after losing Kayla to an injury with 5:30 left to play and down 4,” Downey said. “We could have folded, but we rallied to eventually take the lead. After losing the lead, we had a few opportunities with the ball to take the lead or tie it up in the last minute but we just couldn’t get any good looks.”
Drury (7-4) goes to Agawam on Friday.
