Lenox's King, Wahconah's Favre Honored as Athletes of the Week
This week’s Athletes of the Week were red hot in some cold sports.
Josh Favre had a hat trick in the Wahconah hockey team’s comeback effort to earn a 3-3 tie against Taconic on Wednesday night at the Boys & Girls Club.
Meanwhile across town, Lenox’s Ella King was queen of the mountain at Bousquet Ski Area. She won giant slalom races on Monday and Wednesday to help the Millionaires continue their dominance of the Berkshire County High School Alpine League.
Favre said Wahconah was not overly discouraged after falling behind, 3-0, and facing a 3-1 deficit going into the intermission between the second and third periods.
“The coach is always saying, ‘You’ve got to want it, you’ve got to want it,’ “ said Favre, a McCann Tech junior who plays on Wahconah’s cooperative team “And with the line that was out there, we all clicked. We wanted it and we got it.
“We changed up lines the last few days. It was back and forth, putting some guys on and some guys off, testing lines, trying to find people who could perform the best with each other. This line that we got just clicked, and we’re doing well together.”
King also said that the Lenox girls, who have won all five races this winter, have been clicking on the slopes.
“As I'm the only the senior, I'd say it's definitely a lot of young talent, a lot of young energy,” King said. “That kind of keeps it fresh. Everyone is excited about the years to come. For me, that's been great because I have been doing it for so many years, it's like a fresh vibe to the team.
“And I think everyone works really hard and enjoys practice, loves being out there. I don't hear any complaints. That's the No. 1 thing. I think everyone genuinely likes the sport and is happy to be doing it.”
