Jackson, Brown Lead Pittsfield Boys Past Tantasqua
FISKDALE, Mass. -- La’Quan Brown hit four 3-pointers in a pivotal third-quarter Friday as the PIttsfield boys basketball team came from behind to earn a 70-66 overtime win over Tantasqua.
Craig Jackson scored 24, including four in overtime, to lead the Generals, who also got a 3-pointer from Brown in the 9-5 overtime period.
Pittsfield trailed by 12 at half-time but outscored Tantasqua by a margin of 25-15 in the third quarter to get back in the game.
“In the second half, we erased the deficit in the first five minutes of the third quarter with solid defense and hot shooting from LaQuan Brown and Craig Jackson,” Pittsfield coach Brandon Mauer said. “Into the fourth we built a five-point lead with about two minutes to go, and Tantasqua refused to go away. They hit a layup and a 3 on two consecutive possessions to tie it up and send it to overtime.”
In OT, Kymani Harley (13 points) made a key stop and knocked down a pair of free throws to help the Generals put the game away.
“Credit to my guys for showing toughness and not getting down on themselves after losing the lead going into OT,” Mauer said. “LaQuan Brown (18 points) hit a big 3 early in OT to give us a three-point lead. Craig Jackson stole the ball on three consecutive possessions with tough man-to-man defense and made one layup. On the other two steals he was fouled, making 2 of 3 free throws as they were in the bonus.”
Tantasqua had the ball with 12 seconds left and the Generals up by a bucket, but Harley stole the ball and was fouled. He drained both his foul shots to secure the win.
Pittsfield (3-1) goes to Monument Mountain on Monday.
