Pittsfield Boys Rally to Win Tourney Opener
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Nick Brindle and Tobias Gaulden-Wheeler combined for 20 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Pittsfield boys basketball team to an 84-71 win over Southeastern in the preliminary round of the Division 3 state championship.
Pittsfield led early thanks in part to the inside play of Carter Mungin, who scored 10 of his 16 points in the first half.
Southeastern cut the margin to one going to the fourth and led by three in the quarter.
But the Generals got three 3-pointers and 11 points from Brindle and nine more points from Wheeler to take command.
Wheeler ended the game with a team-high 17 points. Da'Sean Brown, Mungin and Brindle each scored 16, and Chase Racine finished with eight points.
Pittsfield (6-15) snapped a six-game losing streak with the victory. The Generals on Thursday hit the road to play No. 5 Swampscott.
